Ink on skin
So I wrote a ton of stuff and tumblr decided to not cooperate and ended up deleting half my stuff. I sure the flow would be a lot better, but I’ll summarize and then let it continue from what remains.
Basically, I put down a deposit with this very talented avant garde artist and hes coming in the spring. To me, tattoos, along with being aesthetically pleasing should have some meaning to you because after all, you have it with you for the rest of your life, along with being painful. I also said tribals suck and are uncreative somewhere in there. Ok, so now onto what was left over after tumblr fucked me, no lube.
Jun Cha, a popular west coast artist, said it best:
Beyond the basics, beyond the concept of just looking good, the more deeply rooted the meaning and authentic relationship tattoos have to people, the more committed they become during the long, late hours of these sessions. The mental, emotional and physical pain means something, and is truth to who they are – not just after the piece is done, but for the many years to come.
Until the next one comes along, this is my current idea: Dying roses, petals falling, withered edges, in monochrome. Either its going on my left arm as a sleeve or the right half of my back. Aesthetically, I like it because its balanced. Balance is something that is very important for me in my tattoos. Japanese tattoos, done correctly, strive for that. That’s why animals are often paired with flowers in that style. A ferocious dragon flying through a downpour of cherry blossoms.
The dying roses are balanced because it’s something beautiful, but signs of death and decay can be seen all around. What it symbolizes is that the beauty of life is magnified by death. Because something is temporary and brief, the moments that it exist shine brighter. Higher value is placed on it because it can cease to exist; We appreciate it more because we might lose it. The trivialities of our own lives are magnified into something that we believe are overwhelming struggles. The Japanese concept of “mono no aware” summarizes this.
What I hope is that this tattoo would serve to remind me every day of the fickle nature of life and in turn, allow me to appreciate all my blessings. Now, don’t turn around and jack my shit. If you want ideas, ask! I piece ideas with images effortlessly, no ego.
